The book with velvet and marble covers arrived in New York where it will exhibited at the Public Library.
Directly off the press, the most expensive and most beautiful book about the history and life of the great Michelangelo arrived from Bologna to the Public Library in London.
The book’s covers are made of velvet and marble. It took the master of renaissance techniques of book-binding and embellishment six months to complete just one copy of the book. So it is no surprise that one copy of the book “Michelangelo – La Dotta Mano” costs ‘a mere’ 100,000 euros.
- Books are being destroyed by the Internet, they're losing their identity — it's the modern, Internet version of burning books - Marilena Ferrari, the Italian publisher, said.
She added that buyers of the book get a 500 year warrantee.
So far, 23 copies of the book have found their homes around the world. One has been donated to the Public Library in New York, one to the “Prado” museum in Madrid, one to the city of Bologna and twenty copies were sold to collectors around the world.
