Fugitive Fergie safe from Turks

LONDON, Jan. 14 (UPI) -- Britain has declined a request to extradite Sarah Ferguson to Turkey where she is being investigated for her role in a news report on Turkish orphanages.

Ferguson was part of an ITV1 television crew that went under cover for a news report on conditions in Turkey's state-run orphanages. The Duchess of York donned a black wig and head scarf to blend in with the population during the 2008 adventure.

Turkish prosecutors allege the crew violated the privacy of five children featured in the report; however the Home Office said Ferguson's actions were not a crime in the United Kingdom and she would not be extradited.

The Daily Telegraph said Fergie was unlikely to make any follow-up visits to Turkey since she faces more than 22 years in prison.
