WELLINGTON, New Zealand, Jan. 27 (UPI) -- Filmmaker Peter Jackson has undergone surgery for a perforated ulcer at a New Zealand hospital, his representatives said.

The Hollywood Reporter said the "Lord of the Rings" and "King Kong" director was resting comfortably at Wellington Hospital and expected to make a full recovery following Wednesday's operation.

"Sir Peter's surgery is not expected to impact on his directing commitment to 'The Hobbit' beyond a slight delay to the start of filming," said a statement issued by his publicist to The Hollywood Reporter.

Jackson is slated to start shooting the two-part "Hobbit" adaptation next month.
