Depp (46) topped a list of 15 celebrities, catching People's attention not as much for his swashbuckling antics in the "Pirates" or his freakish charm in "Edward Scissorhands," but for his softer side as a family man.

The star has had women swooning over him since he played a teen detective  on Jump Street. Yet it's his devotion to his family that really makes the actor so endearing - People gushed.

Depp's partner is a French singer, Vanessa Paradis, and he is the father of Lily-Rose (10) and Jack (7).

The actor, who often sports a whispy goatee beard and floppy hair, was ahead of a 33-year-old actor Ryan Reynolds and Jake Gyllenhaal.

Depp won the magazine's "Sexiest" honor in 2003 as well, making him, George Clooney and Brad Pitt the only three male stars to win the same title twice.

Last in the top 15 list was the "New Moon" star, Robert Pattinson.
