MADRID (AFP) – US jazz saxophonist and composer Lary Ochs says he has "seen it all" after a spectator disrupted a concert in Spain by accusing him of not playing jazz -- and was backed by a policeman on duty.
The 60-year-old was performing with his band "Larry Ochs & Drimming Core" in the central town of Siguenza on Monday when the spectator got up and said they were performing "contemporary music" and not jazz, daily newspaper El Pais reported.
A policeman at the scene joined in the ensuing debate and concluded Och's performance "was not jazz," it added.
"I thought I had seen it all. Obviously he is mistaken. At least I will have something to tell my grandchildren," Ochs told the newspaper.
Ochs is a specialist in "free jazz", an approach to the music genre that seeks to alter its conventions.
