VideoThe legendary folk singer Odetta, the woman whose voice carried the American civil rights movement, died aged 77.
“May Odetta’s luminous spirit and volcanic voice from the heaves live on for the ages” said her manager Douglas Yeager, informing the public of the sad news that the folk singer Odette has died.
Her voice is linked to the American civil rights movement, and Rosa Parks even said that the song that means most to her was any song sung by Odetta.
Even though she passed through classic education, she said that it had nothing to do with life and that she found her inspiration in blues, jazz and Afro-American folk music. Her first album “Odetta Sings Ballads and Blues” strongly influenced Bob Dylan, writes Reuters.
Even though she rarely performed in her older days, Odetta’s voice is still described as a “force of nature”, and that she is a “magnificent figure in American music”.
