In this year’s edition of Animafest, the 18th in a row, they will show about 500 films from over 60 countries from all continents. Cartoons!
- Although Animafest has no rules on the subjects, this year it seems to me that we have decided a theme after all: women in animation – said the art director of Animafest, Kresimir Zimonovic, who, along with producer Olinka Vistica and executive producer Vanja Kaludjercic, has presented the newest short film publications of the festival dedicated to animated films. The 18th edition of the World Festival will be held in four cinemas around Zagreb: Europa, Central, Gric and open cinema Glipteka.
During the festival, apart form the “Women in Animation” programme, composed by a selection of films by the president of this year’s jury Joanne Quinn, it will be possible to assist to the programme “Masters/Mistresses of Animation”, dedicated to great animation. Many people may be also interested in the programme “My Africa”, which will present a complete overview of African animation with a special stress on the films by Moustapha Alassane, pioneer of African animated films.
Those who want more will be glad to hear that during this year’s Animafest they will show over 500 films form over 60 countries from six continents, and 218 will be shown in three competition programmes.
Brief and sweet
Interesting is the programme dedicated to animated documentaries, “Cartoons” dedicated to or inspired by certain events in history. These films are some sort of crossover between features of documentaries and animations, which have become more and more popular around the world.
Apart from showing films, Animafest will assign several awards, so the recognition for life achievements will be assigned to Priit Parn, and the award for contribution to animation will be handed over to Clare Kitson.
The festival opens on May 13, and will close on July 5.
We can only advise you to visit Animafest at least for a quick look – films are good, this year short, and the choice is huge.
Besides, this is the only occasion you have to see a few cartoons without being afraid of being considered childish among your friends from the boozer.
