Eric Clapton searched for a woman just like his mother.
The 62-year-old musician - who was abandoned by his mother Pat and raised by his grandparents - searched for a woman just like her, who would not reject him.
Clapton said: "My mother and I didn't really hit it off that well. She was glamorous but in a cold, sharp way. "The idea was that I would find a woman like my mother, then make her love
me because I got rejected by the first one.`
The 'Layla' singer - who has battled alcohol and drug addictions - revealed Pat was more of a drinking buddy to him than a loving parent. He added in an interview with Britain's Daily Mail newspaper: "The best period of our life was as adults, when we were drinking together. I loved
her but she was a difficult woman. "Our relationship developed as friends. Whenever I needed a mother figure, she wouldn't be the person I'd go to."
Clapton - who has just written his memoirs 'Eric Clapton: The Autobiography - also confessed he wrote the tell-all book now because he is losing his memory. He said: "I started to realise my memory was failing me. In another ten years I won't be able to remember."
