Great Success of Libertas

Text

Libertas, Veljko Bulajic film, got great reviews, entered the tighter choice for the Oscar award nomination and will be shown in USA.

Bulajic`s renaissance biographical film reconstructs the life of author Marin Drzic and his struggle against state censorship. This is a remarkable masterpiece of Croatian cinematorgaphy, and received excellent reactions anent the Palm Springs International Film Festival. The film even managed to attract distributors for the American market, Weinstein company in this case, and it will be shown in overseas countries.

Weinstein has French-Moroccan-Algerian-Belgian film Indigenes in his distribution, nominated for an Oscar award and the Kazakhstan historic film Nomad which was not nominated. Weinsein company is supposed to start with the film distribution at the end of this year for the entire American cinema network. But, before they decided to take it “under their wing”, they saw it four times, which is no wonder, seeing that it is always risky to distribute films of unfamiliar and small production studios.

“Libertas” received few bad reviews, amongst which was the one of Variety. “Libertas is an old-fashioned European costume drama for which it seemed it failed- luckily, some might say!”, the Variety critics writes. The script for “Libertas” was written by Bulajic, Mirko Kovac and Ivo Bresan, while the actors are, among others, Svem Medvesek, Sandra Ceccarelli, Zarko Potocnjak and Goran Grgic.
