Brooke Shields revealed the details about her postpartum depression. She was having such a hard time that she wanted to kill herself.

Actress Brooke Shields has always talked openly about her postpartum depression, but she only recently revealed that she wanted to kill herself after the birth of her daughter Rowan.

Accepting the award from the foundation called ‘Hope for Depression Research’, a beautiful actress talked about the details of her depression.

- I did not want to exist. I thought that the child would be better without me. Life would not get better so it would be best to go - the actress recalled her thoughts. After she stopped taking her medications, the actress thought about crashing her car into the wall while her daughter sat in the back seat.

- I just wanted to rush into the wall, but a friend talked to me on the phone and with her help, I managed to get home safely – Brooke said.

Grew up with alcoholic mother

The most important thing is to seek help and to admit that something is wrong. The worst is when women think that they can deal with it themselves, said Brooke. She also added that she had difficult childhood and that she had to take care of herself from a very early age.

- I have always been strong enough to get out of every difficult situation in my life. My mother was a drinker. It is in my blood. I did not want to become like her - Brooke explained.

She finally found a solution when she turned to find a doctor who helped her deal with postpartum depression.

- I understood what was happening in my body and in my brain. I learned that I did nothing wrong. It was simply beyond my control – Brooke, who is currently a happy mother of two girls, says.

She wrote a book about her experience called “Down Came the Rain,” after which Tom Cruise criticized her because, as a supporter of Scientology, he believed that one should not take medicines to fight depression, but only vitamins. His statement caused a scandal, and the actress replied to him that “he should stick to the battle with aliens and let mothers decide on how to deal with postpartum depression”.
