Ice Cube is attached to star in "Tough Love," another family-friendly comedy for the gangsta rap pioneer.
Inspired by the life of former New England Patriots defensive back Tebucky Jones, the story centers on a tough-as-nails NFL player who realizes that his kids have become spoiled brats. In an effort to toughen them up, he forces them to spend their summer in the mean streets of Oakland, Calif., where he grew up. Along the way, he realizes that he also might have some things to learn.
Ice Cube's next movie, "Are We Done Yet?" hits screens April 4. His other credits include "Are We There Yet?" and the "Barbershop" and "Friday" movies. He is developing a film adaptation of the 1970s television show "Welcome Back, Kotter." Ice Cube -- born O'Shea Jackson -- rose to fame in the 1980s as a member of provocative Los Angeles rap group N.W.A.
"Tough Love" will be directed for Dimension Films by Thomas Carter, who was last in theaters with "Coach Carter. Ice Cube will also serve as a producer.
