The animal cartoon "Open Season" easily took the top spot on the latest national DVD sales chart
The film, which generated $84.3 million in theaters, outsold its nearest competitor, "The Marine," by a margin of nearly 3-to-1 during the week ended Feb. 4.
"The Marine," an actioner about a group of diamond thieves, stormed the top of Home Media Magazine's video rental chart, earning an estimated $6.3 million to "Open Season's" $6 million. "The Marine" grossed $18.8 million at the box office.
Two other new releases debuted in the top 10 on the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart: the World War I aerial epic "Flyboys" at No. 3 and the football drama "Facing the Giants" at No. 7. "Little Miss Sunshine" rose two places to No. 8 during its seventh week in stores. The comedy is the only one of the five best picture nominees already available on video.
On the rental chart, "Flyboys" also debuted at No. 3, with estimated earnings of $5.7 million. The previous week's top rental, "Saw III," slipped to No. 4, with $5.6 million.
