Ivanisevic: I Decided to Say What I Have to Say

We met with Goran at 1:00 pm in Zagreb’s Westin Hotel. He took out a letter from his jacket and gave it to us asking to publish it.

- Finally, after some time, I have decided to say what I have to say. Everything is in the letter, you do not have to ask me anything. The letter says everything and everything is written in it – Ivanisevic told us immediately at the beginning of the interview in the antechamber of the Westin Hotel. 

In fact, after two weeks of silence, Ivanisevic decided to publicly speak about his affair with RTL TV host Vanja Halilovic, discovered by the media. Without a doubt, Goran Ivanisevic, in the past two weeks has been the most wanted public person in Croatia.

Public penitence for his adultery

And while his partner Tatjana Dragovic appered in public the day after the media revealed Goran’s love affair with Vanja, and told the media she felt great, Ivanisavic had disappeared. He did not even show up at the Zagreb Indoors tournament, although he is the president of the Organising Committee.

Hence, we too were sincerely astonished when this afternoon we spoke to Goran, who decided to express his sorrow publicly due to the adultery, and to beg his partner to forgive him for everything.

We first spoke to Goran around midday and we arranged a meeting at 1:00 pm in Zagreb’s Westin Hotel. Before the meeting, Goran on the phone told us immediately that he did not want to give us a video interview, but only to speak and to give us the letter. We accepted and we agreed with him to meet in the antechamber of the hotel. We arrived there at the time we had agreed, but Goran was not there. We sat and waited.

Ivanisevic: Can you publish my letter of apology? 

A short while later, Goran arrived. In blue jeans, a beige t-shirt and a leather jacket, he surprised us from behind, as he did not enter from the main entrance of the hotel. A gaunt and tired face gave showed that he was going through a bad moment. While shaking hands, he immediately asked where we could sit. A little confused and lost, as if he did not know what he was doing, he sat down and took out the letter. He uncovered it and left it with shaky hands on the table.

- Here, I have written a letter of apology, can you publish it? – he briefly asked us, pointing at the sheet with words of apology printed on it.

- I did not want to write it by hand, otherwise no one would understand it, it is better this way – he concluded at the end of our meeting.

Goran did not want to give comments on the media statements that his partner has no intention to forgive his adultery, and the information that he asked her if they could move abroad.
