Jade Goody`s Husband Guilty Of Cab Driver Assault

Tweed attacked driver Stephen Wilkins while his cab was travelling at 50 mph and also threatened to stab the taxi driver.

Jack Tweed, the husband of terminally ill reality television star Jade Goody, was found guilty on Tuesday of assaulting a taxi driver.

Tweed, 21, who married Goody in a blaze of publicity last month, attacked driver Stephen Wilkins while his cab was travelling at 50 mph, Epping magistrates were told at a hearing on Monday.

He also threatened to stab the taxi driver after he asked for a fare in advance, the court heard.

Tweed, who denied the offence, will be sentenced later on Tuesday, the Press Association reported.

Goody, who revealed last year she had cervical cancer, hurriedly arranged to marry Tweed after doctors told her the cancer had spread and was terminal.

Justice Secretary Jack Straw had to intervene to amend Tweed's bail conditions to allow the couple to spend their wedding night together.

Tweed's trial began on the same day that his wife underwent emergency surgery as doctors battle to ease the pain caused by her illness.

Wilkins, who is in his fifties, said he was attacked after picking up Tweed and three others outside a club in Epping, Essex, in the early hours of May 5 last year.

The taxi driver said Tweed became aggressive after he asked for the fare up front in accordance with his firm's policy.

Tweed attacked him after he had stopped and turned the cab round. He swore at him, grabbed him around the neck from behind and threatened to stab him.

"He leaned forward and yanked the hand brake up. He was screaming in my face. He was very, very aggressive," Wilkins told the court.

"I do as a taxi driver pick up a lot of people who are aggressive but never as aggressive as this."

After he was picked out in a video identification parade, Tweed told police he could not remember anything about the night after downing 10 vodka and red bull drinks.

But he told officers he would not have made the stab threats and was "too skinny" to be aggressive.

"If I did do this then I admit I am an idiot and I will pay damages and apologise to the man," he told police.

In court on Monday he said: "All I can remember about that night is that I was very drunk. I don't normally drink a lot. I might have had a lot to drink or my drink was spiked."
