Actor James Franco claims he masturbates frequently because he spends so much time alone.

James Franco masturbates "four or five times a day."

The Hollywood actor - who has been in a relationship with actress Ahna O'Reilly since 2006 - admitted that he pleasures himself so often because he is alone a lot.

He said: "I spend a fair amount of time alone, especially when I travel for work or whatever, but I'm in hotels a lot for a lot of my life. So, when I'm alone, I do masturbate a lot. I don't know why. It's like you have those days where it's just like, I have a ton of writing to do, or a ton of reading to do, and you're just like, OK, I'm going to be on the couch all day or in bed all day just doing that. I tend to have a four- or five-time day."

James plays Aron Ralston- the mountain climber who became famous after being forced to amputate his own arm when it became trapped under a boulder - in new movie '127 hours' and depicts the climber as resorting to masturbation during his ordeal .

Speaking about why the mountaineer never talked about it, he told the Hollywood Reporter: "He's kind of a gentleman, I guess he doesn't talk about that stuff. I think he also didn't want his mom to read it."

However 32-year-old James revealed admitted he understood the sexual frustration experienced by Aron.

He added: "I probably would have if I was stuck under a rock."
