Jean-Paul Belmondo will make his comeback in Francis Huster's remake of Vittorio de Sica's Umberto D.
French actor Jean-Paul Belmondo (74), who has been recovering from a stroke since 2001, may return to the movie screen, according to his wife.
He will make his comeback in Francis Huster’s planned remake of Umberto D, the 1952 masterpiece directed by Vittorio de Sica.
The actor’s wife Natty Belmondo confirmed over the phone that pre-production was under way. French daily Le Parisien also reported this on Saturday, pointing out that Belmondo was happy to be filming again. She added, however, that he has not signed anything yet.
Umberto D, with the French title Un homme et son chien (A man and his dog), is the story of a retired professor living in utter poverty with a dog as his only friend. The film will be shot in studios in Paris and Marseille.
Belmondo married Natty in December 2002. The two have lived together for 13 years. In August 2003, he became a father for the fourth time when his daughter Stella was born.
