John Mayer Thinks Britney Spears Is `Strange`

The 31-year-old musician also spoke about walking the Oscars red carpet with Jennifer, the couple’s first public appearance together.

The ‘Your Body is a Wonderland’ singer – who has been dating actress Jennifer Aniston for the past year – would never perform a duet with Britney because he doesn’t understand her songs.

He said: “I was just talking the other day about how strange the Britney Spears songwriting approach is. Because it’s all about, ‘I’m going out tonight, but nobody look at me.’

“I’ve never met her and I’m not coming down on her, but all of the songs are sort of like, ‘I’m getting all my girls together, we’re gonna go out’ and ‘I’ve got holes cut out for bleep, I got flashlights on me.’

“And then it’s like, ‘Why’s everybody looking at me? ‘Everybody’s looking at me’ because oh, did you hear verse two, Britney?”

The 31-year-old musician also spoke about walking the Oscars red carpet with Jennifer, the couple’s first public appearance together.

He added to Ryan Seacrest’s KIIS FM radio show: "At some point, you feel comfortable and say, 'This is the choice I want to make’. I think a year is a pretty good period of time with which to say, 'Let's go have a really good time at the Oscars!' "

John initially went as “moral support” for Jennifer, who presented an award in front of her ex-husband Brad Pitt and his partner Angelina Jolie, but she ended up supporting him.

He said: "I basically stepped into the picture frame of Hollywood. For one night, I put on the most amazing suit and entered into the picture frame.

“You have to really be with someone that you know who has your back in that situation. And she did, and it was really great."
