Former members of Joy Division say that many facts were distorted for the needs of the film Control.
Peter Hook and Stephen Morris, former members of Joy Division, claim that the upcoming Ian Curtis biopic is full of distorted facts, twisted to suit the needs of the film. Even though it was the same crew that had given the green light to director Anton Corbijn when he had conceived the biographic documentary Control, they now say that none of the things are really true. "It's sort of true, but you have to take liberties when you're making a film because the truth is too boring,” said Morris, adding that he and Hook had seen it several times and that he thought that Corbijn had done an excellent job.
The biopic Control is based on the book Touching From A Distance by Deborah Curtis, Ian’s widow, and Sam Riley. “I really enjoyed it, but it was, as I said, like having your heart stamped on. The weirdest thing was at the end, when it really hurt and everybody started clapping. It would've been nice to have a dignified silence. You're sat there thinking, 'F--k me, I lived that!' It was like being dissected,” Hook told British XFM.
"The way I always like to look at it is that you can judge how good a film is by how many people go to take a piss during it, and only two people went for a piss - Bernard (Sumner) and a 70-year-old woman," Hook joked in the end.
