NOBEL PRIZE WINNER BIRTHDAY

Text
In order to decently mark 100 years since birth of Nobel prize winner Samuel Beckett, Georges Pompidou centre organises exhibitions.
As a part of celebration of 100 years since the birth of Samuel Beckett (1906-2006), the Paris Georges Pompidou centre organises an original and special exhibition called “Beckett” since March 14.
The setting, which will last until June 25, recommends stepping outside the framework of “Waiting for Godot”, with the intention of presenting different forms of authors prose and directing role. Review “Living spectacles” during March 14, 15 and 16, invites fans of this Nobel prize award winner (1969) to discover theatre play“Krapp`s Last Tape”, with Pierre Chabert in the role of the pivotal character Krapp. The play is, of course, autobiographical, but lyrical as well, because Beckett reveals himself, thanks to the character that is his “alter-ego”. “Knapp`s Last Tape” confesses time, recollections, memories, and what is strange about the author, tells of love! Krapp exploits the newly discovered magnetic tape recorder and build the contents thanks to this new instrument. The persona records himself, each year, for the sake of memory of past events. But for his 69th birthday, Krapp listens to his own voice, from three decades ago. A chance to dive into remembrance, where he sees a vision of his fate – “Night writer”.
A few days later, on March 20, “Night of Music” will be presented to the attendants, called “For Samuel Beckett”. In the famous Beaubourg great hall, famous French composer Pascal Dusapin will perform with “Quad” for violin and ensemble, while Jerome Colombier will present “Black, gray”, for an instrumental trio and two actors, ordered by the Pompidou centre as a world creation. Finally, Morton Feldman will perform a radio phonic piece, for two actors and seven musicians, called “Samuel Beckett, Words and Music”.
All events are organised by members of the “Paris-Beckett Association”: Robert Abirached, Tom Bishop, Pierre Chabert, Barbara Hutt, under the sponsorship of the writer`s nephew and heir, Edward Beckett.
At the Festival, which began in November 2006, all 19 plays by the famous author were shown, as well as a multidisciplinary manifestation, whose authors and actors were inspired by Samuel Becket`s work in the field of arts, music and dance. Among these are The Godot Company, Peter Broook, Bernard Levy, François Tanguy, Michaël Lonsdale and Alain Paris.
