Keira Knightly makes her theatre debut

Film star, Keira Knightly, will appear in Moliere’s play Misanthrope.

Young film star, Keira Knightly, will make her stage debut in the modern adaptation of Moliere’s comedy Misanthrope.

The British actress was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Actress category for her role in the film Pride and Prejudice. She was only 20 at the time. She has also had notable roles in the sequels of films Pirates of the Caribbean and in King Arthur.

Modern London instead of 17th century Paris

In London's West End, the actress will play an ambitious American film star, and the actor, Damian Lewis will play ‘Alceste’, a British writer who falls in love with her.

His character, angry misanthrope, wants to rejct all society, but his plans get complicated when he falls in love with the lovely Jennifer, played by Keira.

Writer, Martin Crimp, changed the action from the 17th century Paris to present-day London.

Premiere is scheduled for December 17 and the play will run through the March 13.
