Mariah Carey: I was a victim of abuse

I was tied to my abuser only through our marriage, but also my work. One person controlled my whole life, Mariah Carey said.

Singer Mariah Carey, who in 2009 married actor and rapper Nick Cannon, spoke to the media about her past relationships, as well as abuse and fighting with her ex-husband Tommy Mottola.

- There are several categories of abuse: Emotional, mental and other. In situations like that, you feel like you are trapped. If you are in a situation that I was in, you will know what I am talking about. The worst part of it is that I was tied to my abuser not only by my marriage, but also my work. One person completely controlled my life - said Carey for Music News.

'I feel compassion for Rihanna' 

Recall, the singer married Mottola in 1993 after he helped her arrange her contract with the CBS Records. However, they parted only three years later, until they officially divorced in 1998. Talking about her abuse, Mariah touched on the subject of her colleague Rihanna whom she helped after the former was beaten by Chris Brown.

She admitted that she feels compassion for a 21-year old Rihanna. Despite the fact that she had suffered abuse with her first husband, Maria mustered her courage and re-opened her heart to a much younger man, Nick Cannon. Well-known singer revealed that the one thing she still dreams of is having a child.  

“I yearn for a child”

- Pregnancy will be the happiest event in my life, but my film ‘Precious’ is soon to be released, as well as few singles from my new album, so motherhood is not on the agenda right now. I do not want to have children ‘half-way’ - Mariah revealed.

This statement denied all the media rumors that circulated during the past few weeks which claimed that Mariah was pregnant. In reality, Mariah gained few extra pounds which immediately set off media reports on how she was expecting a child.

However, even though Mariah does not hide her hope for the future offspring, it seems that the baby is not on its way quite yet.
