The 54-year-old Hollywood star returns to the big screen in new movie ‘The Edge of Darkness’ after an eight-year hiatus.
The 'Edge of Darkness' actor – whose movies have grossed more than $2 billion in the US alone – has become so used to picking up Golden Globes and Oscars he has no room left to display them so he has started storing them in a cupboard.
Mel – who can count an Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Director for ‘Braveheart’, in which he also starred - said: "Oh, sometimes I polish them and introduce them to each other. And then I switch off the light, light some candles, serve canapes and if I’m lucky they reproduce.

The 54-year-old Hollywood star returns to the big screen in new movie ‘The Edge of Darkness’ after an eight-year hiatus, but is glad he took the break because he “felt exhausted".
Mel – who has a three-month-old daughter, Lucia, with partner Oksana Grigorieva - said: "It’s a good thing I took a break. Sometimes there’s nothing better for an artist. I felt empty and exhausted. Life makes you suffer but also happy. And if I’m happy or relaxed for five minutes a day – that’s quite a lot already. I try to live in the moment. I’m not afraid of the future and don’t let remorse get me down."
