Andree Sarkozy, 80, told Point de Vue magazine her son should have no trouble finding a new woman after divorcing his wife Cecilia.
"You know, in his post, he can only have the difficulty of choosing. But I hope that no one will get married again. I've had enough of brides," Sarkozy told the magazine.
Sarkozy announced his divorce in October, just six months after he was elected to power. He was married 11 years.
Cecilia and the president have a young son together and two children each from previous marriages.
Andree Sarkozy, who accompanied her son on a recent trip to China, said she had got on well with Cecilia but was not close to Cecilia's daughters.
"They are distant. Very cold, a bit like their mum," she was quoted as saying by the magazine, which is due out on Wednesday.
Referring to her own three sons, Andree Sarkozy said: "I was never strict, but I had three rules: that they work, don't tell me lies and do sports."
Sarkozy, who presents himself as a hands-on president, made one of his campaign slogans: "Work more to earn more"
