QUEEN LATIFAH: U.S. singer and actress Queen Latifah is to head up the cast of the small-screen adaptation of "Steel Magnolias," Sony Pictures Television said Monday.
The performer will also produce the Lifetime Original Movie based on the iconic play and 1989 film of the same name, written by Robert Harling.
The project reunites Queen Latifah with the producing duo Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, with whom she worked on the celebrated movie musicals "Chicago" and "Hairspray."
She will play the role of M'Lynn in the contemporary, Louisiana-set version of "Magnolias" and will star alongside Alfre Woodard, Phylicia Rashad, Jill Scott, Adepero Oduye and Condola Rashad.
The announcement was made Monday by Nancy Dubuc, president and general manager of Lifetime Networks.
Production will commence in April in Atlanta, for a debut this year on Lifetime.
"The caliber of talent associated with this film is astounding and falls in line with our strategy to make Lifetime a first stop for the industry's best both in front of and behind the camera. Queen Latifah, Phylicia, Alfre, Jill, Adepero and Condola are some of the most celebrated women in music, film, television and stage -- and we could not be more thrilled and honored for them to bring Robert Harling's poignant story about the strength of women to a whole new generation," Dubuc said in a statement.
KATE HUDSON: A source close to Kate Hudson says the Hollywood actress has not married singer Matt Bellamy, despite a remark made by Hudson's mom, film star Goldie Hawn.
Hudson and Bellamy, who are engaged, welcomed their first child, a son, last year.
Hawn sparked wedding-bell buzz when she told Britain's Evening Standard newspaper: "When my daughter Kate married an English rock star it didn't worry me. All that matters is that the relationship is a good one."
A source close to Hudson told UsMagazine.com Hawn didn't mean Hudson and Bellamy were literally married.
The insider pointed out Hawn has been with her partner, actor Kurt Russell, for decades and refers to him as her husband, even though they have never wed.
BEYONCE: Pop star Beyonce, who recently gave birth to her first child, is to perform three concerts at the New Jersey resort Revel, organizers said.
She is booked to perform May 25, 26 and 27 in the new Atlantic City venue's Ovation Hall. The May shows will be the singer's first this year.
Beyonce married rapper Jay-Z in 2008. Their first child, daughter Blue Ivy, was born in New York Jan. 7.
Revel, a 47-story beachfront hotel with performance spaces and a casino, opens its doors April 2.
SNOOKI: Pregnant "Jersey Shore" cast member Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi will appear in the upcoming sixth season of the reality show, MTV announced Monday.
Polizzi, 24, is known for her hard-partying ways. She is engaged to Jionni LaValle, her boyfriend of more than a year, and confirmed last week she is pregnant with their first child.
"While things will definitely be a little different this time when they hit the boardwalk, their trademark hilarity and family dysfunction will remain the same," MTV said in a statement announcing the show's renewal.
Other members of the show's ensemble who will return include Jennifer "JWoww" Farley, Michael "The Situation" Sorrentino, Paul "Pauly D" DelVecchio, Ronnie Ortiz-Magro and Samantha "Sweetheart" Giancola.
