PhotoFew people know that Pete Doherty was an excellent student at Oxford University, and he even won a national poetry contest.
On Friday Pete held a lecture at Trinity College in Dublin, where he received the Honorary Patronage award by the philosophers there.
Excellent student in school
Pete Doherty shocked the organizers of the project Get In The Gallery, whose aim was to prompt children aged four to 18 years old to get interested in art by painting postcards. Pete painted a postcard with his own blood.
He is currently the singer and composer in the band “Babyshambles”. In 2005 Doherty became well known in the tabloids, media and pop culture blogs for his relationship with the supermodel Kate Moss, and his well known drug use.
The tabloid headlines often forget the fact that Doherty was an excellent student in school, and won a national poetry competition when he was only 15 years old, and earned his position in Oxford University. The talented writer was sometimes called a potential poet laureate.
After the lecture, Pete posed for photographs with fans, and the photographers could not catch him without a glass in his hand.
It is interesting that he was called to speak about the lifestyle of a rocker at the lecture, but the organizers hoped that he would not mention sex and drugs too much. However, things did not run smoothly due to the weather, and Pete’s plane, as well as the lecture, were three hours late.
