Report: The Situation checks into rehab

NEW YORK, March 20 (UPI) -- "Jersey Shore" star Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino has checked into an inpatient treatment program for substance-abuse problems, TMZ reported Tuesday.

Sources described as close to the 29-year-old reality TV star told the celebrity news Web site he is being treated for substance abuse, but his publicist denied that to UsMagazine.com.

"He has spent the past several weeks at an undisclosed location for much needed rest and recuperation after his extensive production and appearance schedule," Sorrentino's representative told UsMagazine.com.

"Jersey Shore" was renewed this week for a sixth season.
