Bags of lambs lettuce have been take off sale in Britain because of possible salmonella contamination, the Food Standards Agency (FSA) said.

Distributor Soleco was withdrawing bags of its Florette Lambs Lettuce with use-by dates of 19, 20 and 21 April, the food watchdog said.

The Florette brand is sold throughout the UK. No other batches are known to be affected, the FSA added.

It advised people who had bought the affected salad to throw it away and take the packaging to their retailer.

Salmonella can cause diarrhoea and sickness.
