Sean has turned to close friend Emilio Estevez for support during this troubled time.
Sean Penn is reportedly "desperate" to win back estranged wife Robin Wright Penn. The 'Into the Wild' director - who split from his wife of 11 years last December - has allegedly been pestering the 41-year-old actress with late-night phone calls, it has been claimed.
A source close to the actor told the National Enquirer magazine: "He is desperate to get Robin back. He has been calling her at all hours of the night to ask for her forgiveness, but she always hangs up on him."
Sean has turned to close friend Emilio Estevez for support during this troubled time. The source added: "Emilio has been calling Sean non-stop to lend an ear, but I don't think anyone can cheer Sean up right now. Hopefully Robin will listen to him some day."
Robin and Sean have two children, 14-year-old Hopper Jack, and Dylan Frances, 16.
