Sean, Sean, You’re Not John

Text

Sean Lennon, the son of the legendary John Lennon and Yoko Ono, held a concert at Zagreb’s Kino SC for the first and last time.

For only an hour, in front of a very small number of visitors (we counted about fifty), Sean Lennon held a concert in Zagreb’s Kino SC as part of his “Friendly Fire World Tour” last night.

The musician’s debut album, “Into the Sun”, was issued back in 1998 and his more recent one, a year older, “Friendly Fire”, was presented to the Zagreb audience yesterday.

The tepid and sad atmosphere in the hall through which Slovene’s Laibach stormed just five days earlier, created a poor image of the musician with 15 years of the music business and with whom great names such as Lenny Kravitz, Ryan Adams and Adam Yauch cooperated.

As a teenager, he was friends with Michael Jackson and together with his mother and Lenny Kravitz he organised the filming of a new version of the legendary “Give Peace a Change”, protesting against the Gulf War.

Somebody from the audience started signing “All we are saying… Is give peace a chance” as Sean was climbing onto the stage with his band. The audience greeted the gesture with laughter and applause that sounded stronger than the applause bestowed on Lennon’s son.

Thank you. Greetings to Croatia. This is such a beautiful country, Sean greeted the few fans.

The reason for such a poor turnout is perhaps the fact that the second album of this New York musician was never sold in Croatian CD shops.

Music critics define his album as a soft, electric sound that swings between bossa nova and alternative rock, but to the Croatian audience, he sounded perhaps a bit too soft.

See you Sean, but in some other film.
