Smith’s Horror Lesson

Kevin Smith is always planning and announcing something, for instance the film “Red State”.

Kevin Smith is a very thankful speaker. He always has something to notice, to add, to announce. For RottenTomatoes he said something about his long announced horror film with a work title of “Red State”. Before all, it is not a horror film. In fact it is, but it is not. It will be a horror for Smith, but not for the public. At least that’s what Kevin Smith thinks. But he is not sure.

Anyway, Smith acting as Smith, traveling around the world, holding lectures, visiting festivals (comic or film, it does not matter) and is meeting with the public and press. Parallel with talking a lot, he is certainly doing a lot of listening. He is testing his ideas and recording reactions. There is no doubt about that.

Currently his idea has a head and a tail, but what will come out at the end, if anything, we will just have to see.

“Red State” will establish the tuneful director and scriptwriter in the controversial Phelps family. The declared haters of homosexuals have even founded their own church, the Westboro Baptist Church, and besides the open homophobic statements in America, they are not very popular for the fact that they are regular guests to the funerals of soldiers. The cheif Phelps, Fred, has been put under the microscope (in Smith’s head, of course) and he imagines himself as a man of influence and power with the stances that he has. Now comes the scary part: he has public support, or power. That has not been planned yet…

What to conclude at the end? What is a horror film for Kevin Smith, is a documentary for others (remember the film “Jesus Camp”). It is like that when you live in a world of comics, cartoons and comedy: in the world of imagination.
