The rapper, whose real name is Remy Smith, faces a maximum of 25 years behind bars.
Ivan Fisher, Remy Ma's lawyer, told Reuters Thursday the couple hopes to marry at Rikers Island jail before she is sentenced on April 22 at New York State Supreme Court.
The rapper, whose real name is Remy Smith, faces a maximum of 25 years behind bars.
She was taken into custody on March 27 when a jury found her guilty of assault, weapons possession and attempted coercion for shooting an acquaintance, Makeda Barnes-Joseph, in the abdomen after accusing Barnes-Joseph of stealing $3,000 from her purse.
Barnes-Joseph spent three weeks in the hospital after the bullet pierced her colon and hit her rectum.
Remy Ma insists the shooting was an accident.
A jail spokesman could not immediately confirm details of the wedding.
Fisher said, "The Board of Corrections has a well established process for this" and will allow as many as eight guests to attend the ceremony.
Papoose told MTV News the two had planned to marry on a yacht in late April.
"But due to circumstances beyond our control, we are now making arrangements to be married in prison," he said.
Remy Ma was nominated for a 2004 Grammy for her part in Terror Squad's song "Lean Back."
