Art works of the famous painter were taken away professionally from the Paris home of the famous granddaughter.
Picasso`s paintings, estimated at 50 million euro in total, were stolen last week from the Paris home of the Spanish paintor`s granddaughter, Paris police announced.
Paintings of Picasso`s second wife Jacqueline and granddaughter Maya were stolen at night while the owners were asleep.
-When they woke up, they noticed the paintings were gone, said Paul Lombard, Maya`s attorneys, adding the protection of valuable works of art was adequate.
Painting entitled “Maya a la poupee” (Maya with puppet) from 1938 and “Portrait de femme, Jacqueline”, as the Paris police notifies, were stolen in the early Tuesday hours.
-The stolen paintings are famous and have been seen all around the world many times- said Lombard.
The way the robbery was conducted, remains to be secret. Allegedly, the thieves sneaked inside, without leaving traces of forced entry.
-Nobody is familiar with the exact circumstances of the robbery, said Lombard, adding that the Maya painting was stolen with its frame, while Jacqueline`s portrait was cut out from it.
Picasso`s work is among the most valuable in the world and this is only the latest in a line of his thefts. The artist`s second granddaughter was the victim of a robbery in 1989 in the south of France.
-Seeing how non of the other apartments were broken into, we believe that the robbery was the work of well-informed thieves who knew exactly what they were looking for- said the spokesperson of the Paris police.
Picasso spent most of his life in France, died in 1973. His most expensively sold painting, “Garçon à la Pipe” (Boy with a Pipe), was sold for 104 million dollars in 2004.
