Indian-born fashion designer Anand Jon Alexander was convicted Thursday of sexually assaulting seven females. After nearly two weeks of deliberation, a jury found the 34-year-old designer guilty of 20 of 23 counts, including forcible rape and committing a lewd act upon a child. He faces as much as life in prison when he is sentenced.
The Country Music Awards have honored Kenny Chesney ... again. It's the the fourth time in five years that he has been named entertainer of the year. Other highlights from the night were a duet between Brad Paisley and Keith Urban . . . a presentation by Urban's wife Nicole Kidman and fellow Aussie Hugh Jackman . . . and an appearance by Miley Cyrus and her father, Billy Ray.
Mitch Mitchell, a pioneering drummer best known for his work with rock icon Jimi Hendrix, died on Wednesday, at the age of 62. Mitchell was found dead in his Portland, Oregon, hotel room. Initial reports say he died of natural causes. The drummer was on the last stop of a U.S. tour with Experience Hendrix, a concert series celebrating the legacy of the late rock star.
Rihanna has canceled a concert scheduled Friday in Indonesia over security concerns. The 20-year-old singer had been scheduled to perform before a sold-out crowd in Jakarta but she changed her mind while in Australia, one of several countries that issued a travel advisory after the executions of three Islamic militants convicted in the 2002 Bali bombings. The men had called on followers to carry out revenge attacks if their deaths by firing squad went ahead.
A woman has been placed on three years of probation following her guilty plea to a charge of stalking actress Sandra Bullock. Bullock obtained a restraining order in May 2007 barring the woman from contacting her or coming near her home, family or work for three years.
