VideoMariah Carey and Nick Cannon return from honeymoon, Sir Paul McCartney receives honourary doctorate and Indiana Jones tops movie box office.
A very big holiday weekend for "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull." The action adventure film chased down 311 million dollars (USD) from moviegoers around the world, as nostalgic fans brought along their children to watch Harrison Ford's latest escapades. The tally included 151 million from the U.S. and Canada making it the second-highest U.S. Memorial Day holiday weekend opening in history.
The rest of the the results for the weekend box office were a bit more pedestrian, including a second place finish for the fantasy adventure flick, "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian," which took in 23 million. While Robert Downey Jr.'s "Iron Man" continued to show its metal with 20 million to round out the top three.
Another honour bestowed upon former Beatle Paul McCartney. Yale University awarded the 65-year-old McCartney with an honorary Doctor of Music degree. The legendary songwriter was cited for his lengthy contribution to the music industry.
Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon, fresh from their honeymoon and wedding in the Bahamas earlier this month, made their first overseas appearance together as a couple on Monday (May 26). Arriving in Japan ahead of the MTV Japan awards, 38-year-old Carey and 27-year-old Cannon walked hand in hand amongst their screaming fans.
