MEDIATOR: CAFETERIA LADY

€2,000-3,000 For Medicine and Dental Medicine Exam

Text

According to the students, exams were bought on the faculties of Economy, Transport, VeterinaryMedicine, Medicine and Dental Medicine.

ZAGREB, CROATIA – The news that the Office for the Prevention of Corruption and Organised Mario Ćužić-.--.-Students and police in front of the Zagreb Faculty of TransportCrime (USKOK) has detained 31 persons, while 95 were suspects over selling exams at the Faculty of Economy and the Faculty of Transport in Zagreb, was not a surprise for students of these two schools. Some said they knew there was a price list at he Faculty of Economy, while others named some of the subjects and their prices. Thus, one first year exam costs some 400 Euros, while a third semester exam costs 1,400 euros. The students never arrange the fee with the professor, but a mediator does. Some students told us they heard that mediator was “the cafeteria lady”.

Economy students say there is a legal way of paying for exams: summer school costs 2,000 kuna (274 euros approximately) where students can pass enrol two subjects at the most. After summer school, they mostly pass these exams through tests easily with some less demanding professors. Still, some say that summer school is really not a sure path because out of 120 attendants, 15 do not pass the exam from the first try.

Students from another faculty which is being investigated by the police, the Faculty of Transport Science, tell the same story. Exams cost 400 euros in average, while more is demanded for the hardest subject, from 400 to 600 euros.

Highest prices are at the Faculty of Dental Medicine and the Faculty of Medicine. Interestingly enough, some students came to take the exam with 2,000 to 3,000 euros.

200 euros for a D, 300 euros for a C, 400 euros for a B, 500 euros for an A

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine is another faculty where it is desired to take exams with a full wallet. The subject everyone will advise you to collect money for is the hardest one that lasts for three semesters and has a specific price list. If you are ready to take a D, 200 euros will do, 300 euros will get you a C, 400 euros for a B, while it takes 500 euros for an A. Most students chose the “golden middle”, paying 300 to 400 euros.

-.-Ivan Goldin-.-Faculty of GeodesyAlso, they told us of a subject which required 300 euros for a pass, until the professor was caught and returned. The students say that there is a subject in the final semester which can be passed with graft. They even claim some professors agree according to the “I`ll take graft for you, you take it for me” principle.

Veterinary Medicine students, who decide to pay for an exam, get into additional trouble. After other professors find out that the student was prepared to pay at least once, they expect them to pay for their subject as well.

The example of the Faculty of Geodesy shows that exams are not bought at every faculty. Some 100 students fear of loosing their student rights because of one difficult subject and say: “If only the professor took graft!”.
