Russian company Gazprom will decide by the end of February whether it will increase its gas deliveries to Croatia before 2012.
In order to acquire more gas, Croatia will need to build new gas pipelines and allow the Russians to reach consumers. In case either of the two conditions is not fulfilled, Croatia will not count on larger amounts of gas from Russia, just like bigger and politically more influential countries than Croatia could not.
Instead of the current yearly delivery of 1.1 billion cubic metres of gas, Croatia will receive somewhere between 1.8 and 2.5 billion cubic metres of gas from Russia after 2009.
Croatia spends 2.8 billion cubic metres of gas per year
Today, Croatia spends 2.8 billion cubic metres of gas per year. The Russian oil fund reached 90 billion dollars last year. Today, Russians not only earn on energy-generating products, but also on their deliveries the Poslovni dnevnik portal writes today.
