70 years have passed since the tragedy in Lidice, a place in Czech Republic. The commemoration will be held in Ceski Dom in Zagreb to remember the event that happened on the 10th June, 1942. The place was completely destroyed by Nazi German Forces.
It was a kind of revenge for the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich, the German protector who had been killed six days earlier by the members of the Czech resistance. The revenge was very violent – the whole village was burnt down, all the citizens were shot and children taken to concentration camps where they were killed in gas chambers. The place Lidice was completely destroyed, the graveyard was completely damaged and the lake was covered with soil. The place has never been renovated and the new village Nove Lidice was built nearby. (Mediaservis)
