Goran Pavic, who is accused of war crimes in Croatia, has been freed of charges because of the statute of limitations in the USA has passed.
The American state attorney in Detroit overthrew charges against Goran Pavic on Firday. Goran is a Canadian citizen of Serbian descent. He was arrested on November 7 on the US-Canada border crossing, on the basis of an international Interpol APB. The APB was for war crimes in Croatia, that were against civilians in 1991. The charges were overthrown due to the statute of limitations being exceeded, the legal time limit from when a crime occurs to when it can be processed. This was announced by AzulaySeiden Law Group from Chicago, whose lawyer Linda Babich represented Pavic.
The extradition agreement between the USA and Croatia states that the statute of limitations applies from the country in which the arrest took place, which is this case is the USA.
Pavic was scheduled to be released last Friday.
