The ruling party will appoint ambassadors only in vital places in Europe and the world, and their stint will be three years.
Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader has decided to make amendments to the law on diplomacy because he recons some sort of ‘refreshment’ is needed in Croatian diplomacy.
President Stjepan Mesic said he agreed with Sanader. The party that wins in the upcoming elections will, thus, appoint ambassadors in some vital centres in Europe as well as in the rest of the world. Professional diplomats will take up other offices.
-- The ambassadorial mandate will no longer last for four, even five years – Sanader told the Vecernji list daily, adding that the ambassadors’ stint would be three years.
