I would like a phone to call and ask how the baby is doing. I would like to say I`m sorry for what I`ve done, Antonio said.
Antonio H. (32) a mental patient who severely injured a 2-month-old baby last Saturday in Split, told doctors that God had told him: `Let him who is without sin cast the first stone`, therefore he took a stone and cast it, the Slobodna Dalmacija daily writes.
He threw the stone at the baby`s uncle and then, under the influence of hallucinations, knocked down the uncle, his son and the baby`s mother. He then pulled the baby out of the pram, tossed it to the ground and kicked it with his foot. Antonio told psychiatrists that a voice in his head told him to throw the baby, while another voice told him not to do it.
- I would like a phone or a mobile phone to call and ask how the baby is doing. I would like to say I`m sorry for what I`ve done – Antonio supposedly told a psychiatrist.
After the incident, Antonio removed his T-shirt and jumped on the rocks, sustaining injuries on his hands. The police had to persuade him to come out of the sea. Due to accommodation problems in Split, Antonio H. was transported to Zagreb`s Hospital for persons in custody.
He was examined by a resident court expert witness, neuropsychiatrist professor Borben Uglesic, who has concluded that Antonio has a severe type of paranoid schizophrenia with hallucinations. Doctors` documents show that he was previously hospitalised 26 times in Split and had treatment in the islands of Ugljan and Rab.
He was taken to hospital every time by the police due to incidents he caused under the influence of hallucinations, while he was once arrested with a joint. He has now told the police that prior to attacking the 2-month-old baby, he smoked a joint he had found.
