Antunovic Not Giving Up On Presidency

Text

She was clear about not wanting to be a candidate for prime minister, but would not say if she was giving up the race for SDP president.

Ivica Racan is still fighting for his life. This is the latest information from the Social Democratic Party (SDP) headquarters.

"His condition is unchanged," says spokeswoman Gordana Grbic.

And while Racan is fighting for his life, party heads are fighting battles of their own – for offices. In this vein, the party has held meetings and done preparations all day long at their headquarters on Iblerov trg square for the upcoming session of the head committee that should take place on Saturday.

Antunovic: I do not wish to make public statements

"The ongoing media debates are one of the factors that are doing damage to the stability of SDP. That is why I said what I used to say before, but it went unnoticed by the public," said the party's acting president Zeljka Antunovic to the reporters who gathered on Iblerov trg.

To clarify, she said yesterday that she did not wish and would not be SDP's candidate for prime minister.

However, since she did not make her opinion clear on the other function, one that will be the only topic at the committee's meeting, which is the president of the party, reporters asked for her opinion on the issue today.

"I do not wish to make public statements on whether I want to be the president of SDP," Antunovic said.

She says that she does not want to be an instrument in the hands of those who are dividing SDP at the crucial moment.

Krivokapic: Racan understood Montenegro

Along with numerous party officials who have paraded through SDP headquarters, the centre was also visited by Ranko Krivokapic, the president of the Montenegrin SDP and Speaker of the Montenegro Parliament, earlier today.

"I wish I had met my old friend, but I came to express my support and encouragement in his fight for life," said Krivokapic.

He pointed out that, when he was prime minister, Racan "understood Montenegro and this is why Montenegro has an affinity for Croatia."
