Appeal For Salvation Of Lower Town!

Green Action and the initiative Right To the City forwarded a public appeal to the Zagreb City Assembly representatives to prevent the amendment to the programme of measures for the development of state of locations, which would enable a change of the General Urban Plan (GUP) of Zagreb in the part which mentions the revitalisation of the Lower Town.

Revitalisation of the Lower Town is possible within the framework of the existing GUP. If the changes and additions of GUP enable planned aggressive investment in the block between Cvjetni square and Ivan Gundulic street, a path for similar devastating projects is opened in the entire Lower Town area, which is absolutely in contrast to the contemporary principles of physical planning of big cities.

The city of Zagreb must encourage other Croatian cities with its example which are exposed to the same pressure of the construction lobby (Dubrovnik, Split and others) and show it is capable to preserve its historical heritage and general public interest.
