Ranko Bokan, the Indigenous Croatian Party of Rights (AHSP), was arrested this morning on the Zrinski square in Koprivnica.
Koprivnica Police spokesman, Drazen Laljek, confirmed that the police arrested Ranko Bokan in Zrinski square this morning for disturbing public peace and order by plastering leaflets of inappropriate and offensive content. The Autochthonous Croatian Party of Rights, led by Bokan, condemned the police and stated that everyone has the right to express their opinion.
Police spokesmen said that Bokan suffered physical injuries because he resisted the arrest. He added that his injuries were limited to his wrists and that police never overstepped its authority while brining him into custody.
Autochthonous Croatian Party of Rights says that the arrest happened at 10 a.m. and that it happened because the general member of their staff was distributing pamphlets against Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor. Prime minister is scheduled to open a fifth Koprivnica fair of Croatian Army Organizations today.
Magistrate Court released Bokan at around 6 p.m. who immediately received a certificate of visible injuries from the emergency services, AHSP reports. They also add that Croatia is a democratic country where every citizen should have guaranteed human rights.
