Everything happened in 15 minutes! We were at my parents` house when Marijana went into labour, the delighted father told us.
VINKOVCI, CROATIA –
I saw the baby coming out and heard her first cry and I can say it was a phenomenal experience. There, we had a private suite and a crash course.
A small Fiat Tipo was storming down the streets of Vinkovci as fast as it could. All flushed with pain, 29-year-old Marijana Batinic was in the back seat. She kept telling her husband to hurry, because she could not stand the pain and labours any longer. Her husband Tomislav ran three red lights, went round a bunch of cars, crossing a full line, just to get to the hospital in time.
He stormed into the hospital courtyard and went to get a nurse with a stretcher, because Marijana could not walk. Instead of a stretcher, a midwife ran outside, carrying blankets and a pair of scissors for the cord. She only managed to spread the young mother`s legs and hold the baby, which came outside at the speed of a bullet.
Viktorija was born, weighing 3,100 kilos and being 50 cm long, second child of Marijana and Tomislav Batinic.
- Everything happened in 15 minutes! We were at my parents` house when Marijana went into labour. We went home to get her things and this is where the water broke. We waited for the delivery every day, because she was due on April 27, but we did not expect things to happen at such pace. As soon as her water broke, we got into the car and headed out for the hospital. Unfortunately, there was a jam in the city, because Cibalija FC was playing a match, Still, I passed the 15 kilometres from our home to the hospital with record time, listening to Marijana saying: “Baby, don`t come out just yet” – delighted father Tomislav told us, who already has a 3-year-old boy Tomislav.
He wanted to be present at his wife`s second delivery, but the hospital said they did not have the conditions for this, because he would have to take a course and have a separate suite.
- I saw the baby coming out and heard her first cry and I can say it was a phenomenal experience. There, we had a private suite and a crash course – Tomislav added, whose wife Marijana and daughter Viktorija are successfully recovering at Vinkovci Hospital.
