There are few pieces of evidence to confirm a thesis - election process is not directed by the politicians, but by Mladen Bajic who is standing behind the scene. HDZ didn’t manage to overcome the economy crisis. During HDZ reign illiquidity and debts have increased. Many people lost their working places without any new re-opened ones and there is the shocking ratio of corruption discovered under the HDZ mentoring - all that suits Zoran Milanovic and his partners in Kukuriku coalition. And Mladen Bajic has been taking care of the whole situation in order to prevent the possibility of things getting easier for Jadranka Kosor (although that seems impossible).
About 10 days before the elections, for example, media published the information that Mladen Bajic demands for the investigation of Soboli Company’s business. The current minister of interior Tomislav Karamarko was the co-owner of that company until the moment he was appointed for the boss of the Central Intelligence Agency. So what if there are some suspicious intrigues to be investigated, some orthodox ones might say. They should be investigated for sure, there is only a question what has Bajic been doing until now considering that case? And why does he ‘’demand’’ for this investigation which has been colloquially named as the investigation against Karamarko? This thing happened right before the elections and Karamarko is the HDZ main candidate for the third electorate. That ‘’demand’’ proves that Bajic has done nothing considering the case since it has been already known within politic lobbies that the company connected with Karamarko had been managing the business well, it had been taking care of the safety assessments and the insurance business and that it had been receiving the assignments from the state. For example our news page also wrote about it. So, if the lobbies were buzzing about it and media was publishing those stories, Bajic also had to know about that. However, he hadn’t requested the investigation until Karamarko showed up on the election list as one of the HDZ aces. Even the fact that Karamarko can bring some profit to HDZ in the election zone where this party lost the power ages ago, didn’t disrupt Bajic’s action. It’s not a point to drag Karamarko in front of the justice system but to point out that every HDZ member is suspicious, even the one who is supposed to be fighting against corruption.
The second proof about Bajic’ political engagement is the decision of Osijek State Attorney about reprobation of the criminal charge in the case of Trznice Rijeka. Furthermore, Rijeka’s mayor, influential SDP member Veljko Obersnel was under this mentioned criminal charge. So what, the orthodox ones might say. If there wasn’t anything suspicious, the case should have been overruled. That’s right, but there is a question to impose - why did the rejection happened a week before the elections? Was this case so complicated that the documentation had to be thoroughly studied for a year and nine months? Wouldn’t the case be more regular if Obersnel and his associates were released from a doubt (if that doubt was unfounded) much sooner, instead of being dragged through the process so long that the HDZ used a whole case as a political argument against the opponents?
If Mladen Bajic wanted so, he could have speeded up the whole story. However, in the time the case was opened there was no possibility that HDZ could lose the elections. It was easier for Bajic to wait for the situation to develop, not to speed up the case and allow the doubt about Obersnel being involved in embezzlements to live. The case was closed in favor of SDP, a week before the elections. There is too much coincidence to be random. When he chose timing for reprobation of the criminal charge that threatened SDP in favor of HDZ, Bajic points a finger in the party that doesn’t choose means to weaken the opponent.
When Zoran Milanovic talks about the political persecutions which no one will answer for, and political police, he should make an ascertainment for a truth that the State Attorney Office also acts in the political manner. SDP is mad at Jadranka Kosor as they think that she personally stands behind those designed criminal charges. Slavko Linic even announced the possibility of raising a charge against her. They are angry at the minister Karamarko who, as they think, misapply the police in favor of HDZ. But they should be angry at Mladen Bajic as well.
Within these two cases Bajic’s goal wasn’t to reveal the truth in the shortest period of time. It was more important for him to act in favor of a winner. As he spent time to examine HDZ territory yesterday, today he does the same for SDP. And where is Croatia in all that?
