Bandic Again Accused of Cowardice by Kosor

Unsatisfied by chosen location for Franjo Tudjman’s statue, HDZ will organise a petition to rename Roosevelt Square to Franjo Tudjman Square

Vice-Premier Jadranka Kosor accused Mayor Milan Bandic of turning his back ‘in a cowardly manner’ to the famous ‘handball bill’. She says that Bandic himself had asked Prime Minister Ivo Sanader to rubberstamp the direct settlement for building sports facilities in urgent procedure, and then he was the first, together with the Social Democratic Party (SDP), to back off when the EU warned came that the tender had to be made public.

HDZ rejects the accusation of corruption abetting

The city council of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) and Jadranka Kosor reject Bandic’s and the SDP’s accusation that the government and the HDZ actually wanted to acquire funds for the election campaign, saying that the accusation was pure nonsense and a lie.

- The government is not the one who builds sports halls, the cities in which the world championship is to be held are the ones responsible. Anyway, how can the government do anything in Zagreb where the SDP is ruling? - asked Jadranka Kosor at a press conference saying that it would be a shame not to hold the world handball championship because of technicalities.

– The government will definitely help to get the sports facilities ready for the world championship. – she said.

The citizens will choose the location for Tudjman’s square

Jadranka Kosor said that the present location of the square of the first Croatian president, Franjo Tudjman, was unacceptable for HDZ, so they would soon start a petition among citizens to find out if they would like to rename the Roosevelt Square to the Franjo Tudjman Square.

Katarina Fucek, vice-president of the City Council and MP Mario Zubovic expressed their concerns towards the SDP government in Zagreb, saying Bandic was frivolous. They said that not even a foundation stone had been laid for the sports halls, nor had a location been chosen, comparing it with the Maksimir stadium. Furthermore, they said that the mayor with his projects had hidden the real citizens’ problems asking why at least one Holding company bidding was not legally regulated, transparent and public.
