Petrovic was arrested in Ljubuski on the basis of an Interpol APB, for the suspicion he committed economic crime worth 9.6 million kuna.
Blaz Petrovic was released on the basis of a order by the prosecution after being questioned in the Bosnian Federation police headquarters, confirmed the spokesperson of the federal police, Robert Cvrtak.
The controversial entrepreneur Petrovic was arrested at 4pm on Wednesday by members of the federal police in Ljubuski, on the basis of an Interpol APB for abuse of position and forging documents, which the Croatian Ministry of Internal Affairs filed against him.
The reason he was quickly released is the fact that Petrovic has dual citizenship, so he cannot be held or extradited to Croatia.
An investigation was initiated at the end of April at the Zagreb County Court against Petrovic and his associate Vesna Kvartuc, and they were ordered to be held in custody for one month. This was for the suspicion that they illegally “earned” 9.6 million kuna, and a court APB was filed against Petrovic.
Laundered 9.6 million kuna via the company ‘Morovnik’?
Petrovic and his associate, the director of the company “Morovnik”, are being charged with abusing their position and powers. Charges also include planning and implementing multiple fictive physical and legal persons between September 2003 and June 2004, and that Petrovic illegally gained 9.6 million kuna. The fictive legal business included the unfounded contracts of giving, paying and taking over debts, giving and receiving loans and other legal business which are not recorded in their business transactions.
Before the police operation he left Croatia, and it was speculated that he was in Bosnia Herzegovina, where he was born and also has citizenship. After his house and business premises was searched, he told the media in Zagreb that he will return to Croatia when the “conditions for that are reached”. He rejected all the allegations that he does crime and that his companies do illegal business.
