Boris Sprems condition deteriorated - transferred to intensive care

The general condition of Croatian Parliament Speaker Boris Sprem has deteriorated as the disease, plasma cell cancer, is spreading rapidly, and following complications he has been transferred to intensive care, but is stable and his life is not in danger, his team of doctors at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, USA said on Thursday.

After the first week of experimental therapy in treating multiple myeloma, results have shown further progression of the disease, so it will be necessary to undertake intensive treatment, including intensive cytostatic therapy and radiotherapy, the doctors said in a statement that was circulated to the media by Sprem's office.

The statement noted that at this stage of the disease bone marrow transplantation was not a therapeutic option.

Sprem went to the MD Anderson Cancer Center on August 23. (Hina)
