The defendant complained about Croatian prisons. Before his arrest, he did not hide his identity.
Former seafarer who kept avoiding justice for over four years is finally behind bars, British KentOnline writes.
William Stevenson fled to Croatia in 2004, after posting bail. As a result, he was sentenced to five years in prison in absentia.
His attorney Simon Wickens said that 71-year-old Stevenson did not hide his identity in Croatia. He was arrested in September last year and faces a tough prison regime, while he said that Croatian prisons were so repugnant that he has already been punished for his offences.
Stevenson will now start serving his sentence, which was prolonged for six months. He was found guilty for abusing a man on 11 counts of the indictment and for abusing a child on 13 counts of the indictment.
He was using boys for sex after luring them with motorcycle or bicycle rides.
