The proposed urgent rebalance of the budget, which might freeze salaries of public officials after all, will not be accepted by the unions.
The Croatian premier’s economic council and the GSV (Economic Social Council) should talk about measures to combat the consequences of the recession that is shaking EU nations, and what Croatia should do about it.
The members of the committee received an overview of EU anti-recession measures, after which they should bring forward their own proposals that were announced in the media – from the need to rebalance the budget, to the suspension of the law on minimal salaries, and the ban on stores from working on Sunday, to securing credit for small and middle entrepreneurship via HBOR.
The proposed rebalance of the budget, that would freeze the salaries of public officials after all, which was the hottest issue when making the budget, will not meet approval from the union representative in the council, Vilim Ribic, to whom this is not an option.
“That is an absurd proposal, let those who proposed it first cut their own salaries” said Ribic, repeating that the unions were deceived during the negotiations for freezing salaries, when they claimed that salaries were falling for all citizens.
